Be part of a national movement designed to promote small business owners like you!

WHAT IS IT?

The "Think Local First Campaign" is an ongoing marketing campaign that informs consumers about the benefits of shopping at local, independent businesses in Washington DC.

Think Local First campaigns have successfully been implemented in cities and towns across the nation in collaboration with BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies). We are partnering with BALLE to launch ours here in DC and create the DC BALLE network!

Over 130 local businesses in Washington DC are proudly displaying the Think Local First logo in their storefront.  Participants include restaurants, retailers, services, and home-based businesses.

HOW WILL THE CAMPAIGN BE PROMOTED?

"Think Local First" shopping guides with a discount card will be distributed to consumers in November, 2008, just in time to shop locally during the holiday season.  Consumers will also be driven to local businesses through media attention.  Think Local First marketing materials including bookmarks, stickers, pins, as well as events and promotions at street festivals and farmers markets.

WHAT KIND OF EVENTS WILL BE HELD?

Throughout July 2008, the Think Local First Campaign sponsored "Independents Month", which featured a series of events and promotions that highlighted the unique flavor that local, independent businesses bring to DC.  Events included a fashion show featuring local designers, a local produce cooking demonstration at a farmers market, and appearances at farmers markets and the dog days of summer on U Street.

A "Buy Local Week" will be held the first week in December to encourage shopping locally during the holiday season.  Local First DC members will hold a series of in-store activities including tastings of local food products, book signings by local authors and special holiday discounts
